Shoddy Distributor body
Has anyone had a problem with the brass contact distributor bodies from MAC's?
I bought one recently and there was no clearance between the end of the rotor and the distributor contacts. In fact it broke the new MAC's rotor when I tried to start it. My old parts worked fine and I ended up reusing them. I suppose I should have paid more attention to the clearance before I tried to start the engine. Is it common practice to file the end of the rotor/and or distributor contacts for clearance if needed? In 45 years I have never encountered this problem with any other application. I suppose if distributor shaft bushings were extremely worn there could be rotor breakage from flopping around and hitting the distributor contacts. However I do not believe my bushings are worn. |

Re: Shoddy Distributor body
There are a lot of bad bodies out there recently with incorrect clearances. Not sure who is making them or where they are coming from but they are not limited to MACS

Re: Shoddy Distributor body
You need to check and adjust the clearance/gap between the rotor and contacts when installing ANY new body and rotor.
