Default Shoddy Distributor body

Has anyone had a problem with the brass contact distributor bodies from MAC's?
I bought one recently and there was no clearance between the end of the rotor and the distributor contacts. In fact it broke the new MAC's rotor when I tried to start it. My old parts worked fine and I ended up reusing them. I suppose I should have paid more attention to the clearance before I tried to start the engine.
Is it common practice to file the end of the rotor/and or distributor contacts for clearance if needed?
In 45 years I have never encountered this problem with any other application. I suppose if distributor shaft bushings were extremely worn there could be rotor breakage from flopping around and hitting the distributor contacts. However I do not believe my bushings are worn.

There are a lot of bad bodies out there recently with incorrect clearances. Not sure who is making them or where they are coming from but they are not limited to MACS

You need to check and adjust the clearance/gap between the rotor and contacts when installing ANY new body and rotor.

ya I got a box of model a distributor stuff from an auction and some rotors would hit some bodies and some wouldn't. New always isn't better. Usually you can get by just by cleaning the contacts with some 2000 grit paper unless they are pitted or physically broken.
