42-48 convertible mounts
Say, I am attempting to locate information on the solid metal mounting cushions/pads for the 42-48 convertibles that go between the body and frame. They are like the rubber cushions only they are metal. I think they are to 'stiffen' the body so it doesn't twist. I guess I need to know how important they are and does anyone make them??? Any info would be appreciated.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
To my knowledge no one reproduces them. You do need them for the convertible body.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
They were shaped like a bow tie and made from aluminum, and from memory are about 5/8 thick .The one side has a step in it as it fits on the frame at the front cowl mount where the inner and outer frame rails join one frame top flange fits over the outer so creating a step. Just cut some squares of 1/8 steel and fit them to the # needed to "set" the cowl .they are only used on the front Mount and they keep the cowl from moving ahead ,back when the top is up and locked.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
There were also steel mounts under the door at the ft and back. I have the dia. saved on my email. I don't know how to post it here. If you send me your e mail i will send my saved email to you. You can then post it to others.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
When I built my 46 Conv. I was short some of the mounts your are looking for. I found someone that had made them by turning them out of shaft stock. I bought 6 of them and used 3. I seem to remember seeing them in my spare parts not too long ago. Anyone with a machine shop or a lathe could turn them out. I do believe there is someone that is still making them. It has been 15 years since I was looking for them, so I am not sure who made them. Try Ray Nacewicz (spelling error?). He may know where they are avvailable from. I think you need 4 of them. 1 behind each door and 1 on each side of the cowl, if memory serves me right.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
I wish that I were at home. I would be glad to give them to you. Unfortunately, I am not going to be there before the first of May. There are plenty of machine shops in Springfield and Eugene that could turn them out for you if you had the dimensions. Someone on this site must have one that they could dimension for you. Keep asking.

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
Ssawzall, those are great drawings. Ibslamed shoulld be able to get those made by any machine shop. I think he was looking for mount"G", but that information and drawing should make it easy to duplicate any of them.

They call it the Dog Bone....It goes between the cowl and the frame rails. there are 2 bolts per side. A closed car has one big rubber donut on each side......

Re: 42-48 convertible mounts
Hi guys could anybody please tell if any rubber goes between these dog bones and the cowl supports or frame. I'm trying to convert a 47 Mercury coupe into a convertible and cannot find any info on the cowl braces or the ones at the jacking screws. Thanks for any help. Jeff
