7 degrees - one minor complaint
Just finished a nice drive around the countryside . Outside temp around 7 at departure and about 14 now. "Yoda" performed flawlessly and the cabin was comfortable tooling along at 55. Had one small air leak around the wpier that is now plugged with tissue..
Only problem is fogging of windows. Had to keep wiping them. Was there ever any option for defrost? |

They sell a spray for windshields that is anti fog, might give that a try.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
I have two windshield defrosters that are just a glass plate with suction cups and a heating element. These things must have been a "joy" to use! I see them falling off the windshield and various other difficulties. You don't mention whether or not you have a heater, so I'll just say I've got an Autolite and it makes the cabin warm in spite of the many leaks in the floor and around the windshield. These are around at swap meets and I think they're well worth the money.

I heard that a sliced potato works well too.

Oil from tobacco is one I heard of. I have also heard about the potato.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
Get a hot gal to ride along...that should melt any frost. Although, I guess you'd need a window de-fogger though

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
The use to have a rubber fan that would mount on the dash that would blow the fog off. Don't know if they make them now or if you can get 6 V one.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
Ok, nothing from the Era then.
I've got plenty of heat but i'my finding I have to open the drivers window every now and again to vent the humidity. I think I have a small 5 volt fan I can use to move air across the windshield. (Boomerusmc - that isn't a solution.....it's what is causing the problem. ) |

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
I find just winding down a rear window just a bit in my Tudor stops windows from fogging

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
When racing motorcycles, I used to polish my goggles with liquid detergent aka washing up liquid. The same worked on the windows of the heater deficient Austin Mini that I drove all over Canada back in the 60's.
Have not needed to test the concept lately as I am too much of a chicken to drive the oldies in winter. Ian |

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
Terry...do the glass plate defrosters that you mentioned look like the one in the picture? I pulled it from the May-June 2014 Model A News.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
The only odd thing in driving my 31' Tudor on the 31st in 24F was when I pull out the chock, the rubber grommet naturally had a bit more resistance than at say 40F and above.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
Yes! That's what they look like. Because of my limited computer skills, I have to post everything to my picture albums. Click on my picture, go to my album, "My A". I took the pics this AM and they are the first in line.
Note the wires under the glass and the red arrow pointing to the connector for the wire. Note too, the suction cup mounting. On the small one, I have only one of the suction cups. The large one has no identification. The small one was made by the Mitchell specialty Co. Phila. Terry |

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
I keep a small battery powered fan (from Dollar Tree that I glued a magnet to) and use it as a defroster when it is raining. Not sure about it working in sub-freezing temps, but for a dollar it might be worth a try.

Re: 7 degrees - one minor complaint
I use the Trico vacuum fan which is steering column mounted. It is 30 or 40 vintage. They are always for sale so don't get hosed. I drive my A's all winter long in zero temperature and it works great. Wayne
