Re: Colorized
As a young stud in high school, I remember my buddies and I pooling together our funds to buy a dollar's worth of gas to cruise main street on Saturday night. The car would be empty as we coasted...

Re: cam lube
If I remember correctly, the instructions for the Burtz block say to crank the engine over without plugs before the initial start. The intention is to get oil to the insert bearings and to assure...

Re: Front and rear Hubs
The hubs and drums are swedged together. They are not separable.
The early 28 cars had different hubs and wheels and the later hubs and wheels cannot be used interchangeably. See the Service...

Re: Henry Ford Line 1
Henry was introduced to the Robertson screw, the one with the square hole. This could have saved countless hours in assembly, but Henry would have to have paid a royalty. So, guess what, we have to...

Re: Dropping the oil pan
Take a cutoff wheel and make screwdriver slots in two bolts to use in the very front. These are hard to get to with a socket wrench.
No matter how careful you are, you are going to get some...

Re: "New Engine" Balancing"
No inline engine will be perfectly balanced. Consider this: When the pistons are at top dead center or at bottom dead center they are reversing direction. The mass of the pistons, rings, piston...

Re: valve guide question
You are going to get some oil coming up the intake valve through the stem to guide clearance. The guide that is held in by the valve spring has a shoulder that fits against the hole that it pushes...

Re: Aaaa
Synchro, MHD. Middle hand drive. I think it would help to have two helpers, one on the left and one on the right to handle the gear shifting. So that would make it LMRHD. And that means that you...

It's interesting that they used the two rear ends from the two trucks, just narrowed so that both would fit under the frame. They kept the two suspension systems to double the weight carrying...

Many many years ago (1960's) I was in a group tour of the Model A club at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. We drove north along Highway 1 through Big Sur. One of the cars developed a bad main knock and...

If you can install the front fenders without lifting the body, all the better for you.
I removed my front fenders to re paint them. I lifted the body 3 1/2 inches in the front and 1 1/2 inches...

Re: Rear main options
As J suggested, check the gap. There are various ways to check the gap.
I would not worry to much about oil leaking out the rear. I little leak is normal. You can tie up a tray under the rear...

Re: cam lube
Brent, Assembly lube is pretty sticky. I found that it does not get squeezed out between the cam lobes and the tappet, leaving them dry. Nor does it get squeezed out of any bearings.

Re: sign of the times
I guess that includes Model A's. I occasionally take my Model A to Jiffy Lube to have the oil changed. I have to drive it in and after they are through, start and drive the car out.
