This 1940 Ford Convertible was bought by the most recent owner nearly 50 years ago. During his ownership, he meticulously maintained the car and drove it often. It was purchased at a time when low mileage, undamaged examples were easy to find.

At first glance, this car looks to be all original, but it isn't. The car was repainted at least 50 years ago and the paint has mellowed nicely with age. It really looks like original 1940 Ford paint. There are certainly a fair amount of chips and scratches, but the black paint really presents well. The upholstery was replaced many years ago. It appears to be leather and, like the paint, has a wonderful mellow glow while still being extremely clean and presentable. The carpets have recently been recently replaced. The power top assembly has been recovered with a newer, LeBaron Bonney kit with the proper glass window. New running board mats have recently been installed. The bumpers were re-plated a few years ago. The other chrome and stainless trim items are in very nice condition. This car has a strong, visual appeal.

The body is rock solid and straight. I don't think this car has ever been apart, damaged, repaired or rusted. The floor pans, trunk pan, sills, rockers, door bottoms etc are just as straight as can be. The doors open and close effortlessly with an assertive click. If you know 1940 convertibles, you know where their weak spots are and this car has no weak spots anywhere. This was always a good, honest car.

This car is nicely equipped with bumper tips, bumper/grill guards, fog lights, clock, dual mirrors, radio and heater. The original 16" wheels have matching inner and outer trim rings as well as newer, Ford script, white wall tires.

Under the hood, this car is equipped with the popular 59AB flathead engine. The engine has been upgraded with aluminum Edelbrock heads, a contemporary distributor, a 12 volt electrical system and dual exhaust. Recently, the carburetor, fuel pump and water pumps were been rebuilt. Mechanically, this car is excellent. The engine starts immediately whether hot or cold. It rarely requires the choke and immediately settles into a smooth idle. It has an assertive yet mild exhaust note. The transmission shifts easily. Recently, the brakes have been serviced. The steering is tight and accurate. This is a great running and driving car. It is well sorted and ready to drive anywhere. With the exception of the radio, all of the features appear to work.

This is a great and honest example of an iconic Ford V-8 that is ready to use and drive. If you are knowledgable about early Ford V-8s and are looking to add a good, solid, convertible to your collection, this car might be for you. Realistically priced at 39,000.00 and located near Jefferson, Wisconsin.
