Air Conditioning In A Cabriolet?
Has anyone installed AC in a Cabriolet? Due to medical issues I can no longer tolerate hot sun and heat. I would appreciate info and recommendations especially from Texas fellows that have AC in a Cabriolet or Coupe.
Thanks, Bill Lee/Virginia Peninsula |

Re: Air Conditioning In A Cabriolet?
First issue is are there any a/c units that use 6v?
Second is can you motor handle the horsepower draw? Third, is one of the best respected a/c companies selling to the street rod market is Vintage Air, of San Antonio. Great people, products, and service. |

Re: Air Conditioning In A Cabriolet?
I didn't find that to be a problem personally.
I don't know of an AC unit since AC units began showing up in production cars in the mid 50s Packards and Cadillacs that was 6V. If you're going to put a Sanden compressor under the hood of a Model A, an alternator shouldn't bother you.

Re: Air Conditioning In A Cabriolet?
I just installed a Ken Davis unit in my '31 S/W. I installed the cab unit (condenser) to the far right in front of the passenger. I found the unit pretty tight over the pedals and accelerator in it's suggested center position. The photos below show plenty of room for the driver. The passenger legroom is fine as I have installed it. The Ken Davis unit requires a 12 volt system. The cord you see dangling over the panel is powering a GPS...Nothing to do with the AC.
I rotated the compressor 90 degrees counter clockwise from the suggested orientation in the directions included with the kit to position the AC hoses away from the crankcase breather/oil fill tube. With this change, the hoses seemed to pass through the engine compartment (lower) in a more orderly fashion. Ken Davis said: No problem to this change. Update: I just had it charged for the first time this morning and tried it. Wow this system works great. Good Day! Last edited by Dave in MN; 07-16-2018 at 02:49 PM. |

Re: Air Conditioning In A Cabriolet?
I concur with the use of the Ken Davis kits we have used them in several cars and am planning on one for the Cabriolet project.
