you better be able to go fast considering that there were a few people who lived in that state who knew how to drive a car fast!

Our Ford dealership started in 1915. We used to work on those 56 police interceptors. We also worked on many bootleggars cars and sold many to them. They were honest and paid there bills. the most popular one was the 40 coupe. we installed many new crate cadillac overhead valve engines in Fords. we also stored confiscated liqour cars for the ATU. I do not think that those 56 Fords would outrun many of the liqour cars here in Wilkes county (unless they were caught sitting still at the still) which was known as the bootleggar capital of the world. Junior Johnson and Benny Parsons are from here.

Talking Re: 1956 Ford Police Car

Probably the best car I ever owned was a former Maine State police cruiser. 55 Ford mainline purchased at Portland Motor Sales on Forest Ave. in Portland. Had an Interseptor engine with dual exaust, stick overdrive. Pd. $1000. It was a year old and not beat on. Drove back and forth several times to Ft. Benning,Ga. while stationed there. It treated me well as I had no money or much else! Still have most of nothing I started with.

When I was 15 I had a 55 Mainline, ex FL highway patrol 2 door, 292, duals, 4 BL, T85 3 speed w/OD. Was the first car I ever painted (Black), and it ran great. But in HS I had a 57 custom 300 4 door with stock 272, 2 BL that would run circles around the 55! Would love to have the 55 back, but with a 57 312!
