All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
Ok...lets vote on it right now and be done with it! Let's see just where it will go.
How the heck do you do it here? Can someone put up a poll on the subject? Pluck |

Re: All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
First you had MARC. Then some got pissed off from the WEST and said WE are starting our own club here [MAFCA]. A.A.C.A is 1 club with National meets 7 or 8 times a year [small but nice the same]. Membership around the world like MARC/MAFCA. Think some "old past" upper Board of Directors and club Officers don't see eye to eye [ largely on Judging standards] .That's why it take's so long to come out with "NEW Standards"] and NEWER STANDARDS TOO..

i vote no. I like two points of view. If i wanted a single opinion/outlook i'd just talk to myself. One club, one editor, one point of view...i'd rather not. I like when people disagree with me...it means we are both thinking and we'll get a better product....fwiw,jm

I saw the same thing happen in a large California city many years ago; a few people got upset over nothing serious and formed a new A club. As time passed and the population increased both clubs increased membership, both have been successful, and both exist to this day. I'm sure that most people in both clubs don't even know about the past and what good would it do ? I think its healthy having our two National Clubs, I am a member of both, and intend to stay that way. Ron |

I signed up for one of them, I forget which, about six weeks ago and have heard nothing since. My check cleared right away though.
The Ford Barn seems to meet all my "A" needs.

Re: All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
isn't that better? two points of view, two different (i'd bet not that much different) scores? lets see, 23 areas, average of 3 people per area..lets say 70 pairs of eyes...2 meets...same standards. which will give a more 'accurate' (statistically significant) score? 70 pairs of eyes or 140? ...fwiw,jm

I vote no to any merger. I consider MARC more Eastern and MAFCA more Western, but have long belonged to both.I also would like more and smaller meets and tours spread across the country, making them accessible to more people.

Re: All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
I think that while the clubs are already set with one being more east and other West.... leave it as is...
HOWEVER-- Think that ONE set of standards and tech books is enough. Maybe keep both clubs but do more combining of standards and books... pdora-- It takes a bit but membership info coming... mine took about 4-5 weeks.. and BTW--- (WL7MW, currently Huntsville, AL linked into North Alabama 2 meter repeater system) |

Re: All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
i vote NO...there are too many differences at this point to be able to merge, i think we are a few years away from that point and need some serious sit downs before that happens.

Re: All this talk about merging MARC and MAFCA...
I don't think that anybody thinks a merger could happen immediately. I do think that the Board of Directors of both clubs should begin the process of developing a reasonable plan for a merger to put to the membership of both clubs for a vote.

My vote is no. I see no advantage to having fewer magazines, fewer national meets and fewer chances for any individual to become involved as an officer.
The advantage express by many is less expense. The opportunity to reduce your cost already exists by joining just one club. You automatically get the disadvantages listed above. |
