Default Thoughts on 8ba Crankcase Ventilation

I need to decide on what method of crankcase ventilation I want to use on the 276 cube 8ba I have coming together. On my previous engine build I used the original oil filler tube with the cap with the large air baffle, and the original road draft tube. The crankcase ventilated fine, and I never smelled any crankcase fumes, course it was a tight new engine.
Now, I have a nifty pcv setup that would press into the road draft hole in the 2x2 Offy manifold I have, that would tap into the one manifold vacuum port. This leads to the discussion about the fact I am using a GM dist. that also needs manifold vacuum,.... which has been previously discussed here.

I am interested in what some of you guys with non- stock 8ba engines have chosen to do. Thanks all!

Thanks for the links Pete, I did read through both and gained some insight. I would STILL like to hear what various folks have chosen to do on this, and how they feel it worked. Thanks

what you describe with your pcv setup is just what i did. works great, no issues with gm dist. i would say go for it. Paul

Here's my setup for what it's worth. I was concerned (maybe needlessly??) about only drawing crankcase gases into one plane of the manifold or just the front or rear carb, so I used these modified spacers. If you look closely at the second photo you can see a hose going from the oil fill tube to where the air cleaner would be. This goes to a port on the "clean" side of the air filter element. Air comes in through this hose when the PCV valve is drawing vacuum and crankcase fumes spill out and into the air cleaner under heavy loads. I don't seem to have a good photo of the PCV valve but it is sealed into the old opening for the road draft tube like the common kits and sized for a 3L V6 engine (Lexus??). Ken

Regarding where to pull your distributor vacuum signal from, I would not tee into the PCV lines for this. This is based on my old vacuum wiper system going from almost useless to totally useless when teeing the PCV system into the line for the wipers previously. Maybe there is a port behind the rear carb you can use...
