There is a guy in Vermont, I think, that restored my original temp gauge. He did a very nice job for about $100. He only works on originals not repros. Jim in San Jose

I believe I have an original in my car but the thermometer part has turned clear and it has separated at the fitting going into the engine

Sorry to inform you that the original temp gauges never lose the red colour of the liquid; the repops that were made in Argentina some time back do, however.

Keep looking, original gauges pop up both in the swap meet area here and on e-bay frequently. The same gauge was used from 1937 through 1939, you may just have to change the face plate to match your dash.

When you get one more post, then you will be able to send a PM to barnfind08 to see if he has one. Happy hunting.

If the tube connection at the base of the gauge is “L” shaped, you have an Argentinian repro that is not repairable. If the capillary tube connection is straight, then your gauge is OEM and can be repaired.

Zeke3 I have seen them on eBay but the tube is always cut or they are in unknown working condition or just in horrible condition.

I would not buy one unless it was complete and working unless you just wanted it for the faceplate. Call the Early Ford Store in San Dimas, CA at 909 305-1955 to see if they still have one. Another possibility is to send a PM to barnfind08 on the Barn to see if he has one. You may also try an ad in the Wanted section of the Swap Meet area, but watch out for the scammers.

I don't think Fred has any left. Third Gen maybe. All Ford in Campbell,CA maybe also.A month ago the Ford Store(1 man show) had a couple.Gotta call at opening cause when the customers enter they can't answer the phone. With the Roadster Show coming up I'm sure the phone won't get answered until the week after Fathers Day.
Here is a pic of a NOS 38 gauge.See how the line makes a 90 degree turn at the bottom where it enters the glass tube. The NOS 35-36 gauge is to the right. Both those were mine at one time.Ford Store got them from me.

I found a original gauge that is in good shape but does not work. Does anyone have a contact for the guy that restores them? I think this will be the more cost efficient way for me to go.

Re: Does anybody restore temperature gauges?
John Wolf in Cleveland OH area. He did my 32 dual temp. Perfect work, not expensive for the effort. Some instrument shops can be pricey.
