Re: 36 Starter to oilpan bracket - Opinions requested
I used some scrap metal. Seems to work fine.

Re: 36 Starter to oilpan bracket - Opinions requested
Thank You Everyone for the excellent discussion, photos, humor and suggestions.
I think JM is right that the position of all the other upper starter bolts are more towards the 2:10 o'clock position. The position of mine is more towards the 1:50. As I look at the other cars, their upper starter bolt is definitely 1/2" below the oil pan/bolt. Mine was more like a half a bolt hole below the pan but about 1/2 to 3/4" rotationally towards the 12 o'clock position. This is why I had a clearance problem with the lip of the oil pan, where all other shots show the bolt well below the oil pan where the bracket clearly does not interfere. So somehow our starter is not mounted like others, either it's user-error or it was made that way, or it's been modified. I'm sure we will find out because we have planned for this fall to rebuild our tranny, and pull this engine in favor of a newly rebuilt engine. (I'm really hoping I don't regret an engine swap because the one that is in there has never given any reason to mistrust it. And because of the original Ford rebuild tag on that one.) We will have an opportunity to check out what's up. I just figured out we'll need another bracket this fall because I've clearly butchered this one!! Jeff/Henry's son/VeryTangled |

Re: 36 Starter to oilpan bracket - Opinions requested
I know for a fact that the English V8 Pilot oilpans have the starter bolts canted at a different angle than the Yankee oilpans. They also have a smaller spigot on the starter. To use a 'normal' V8 starter on a Pilot oilpan, one needs to open up the hole to suit spigot on V8 starter.
