1950 Ford Woodie Vin
Can anyone tell me if the vin numbering of the woodies was different than regular productions cars? I have Van Pelts detail in regards 1949-53 vin numbering, but I am looking to buy a 50 Woodie with a vin that is only 5 digits with a "A" prefix. I haven't seen the car yet only a photo of the California title the seller has sent me.

Re: 1950 Ford Woodie Vin
That sounds like the body number and not the sequential numbering of the vehicles as they were assembled down the assembly line.
The 'shoe box' woodies all had build numbers stamped into the cowl. |

I looked in the "The V-8 Album" by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America. I t does not discuss your question at all.

Re: 1950 Ford Woodie Vin
The A number is stamped into the firewall and is the body number assigned at the Iron Mountain plant when the body was built. That number will tell you what month the body was built. The A numbers are listed in Loren Sorensen's book on the '49-'51 station wagons. The A number is not the vehicle serial number which is on a rectangular plate that is riveted to the firewall. That number will tell you which plant the car was assembled in.

Re: 1950 Ford Woodie Vin
Mac's link is a good one. It explains some of it.
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...9VINdecode.htm another one http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm and one more. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...entplate-1.htm Some models vary due to the assembly plant where they were put together. Uniformity in body tags started in 1951 and evolved several times in the 1950s. Last edited by rotorwrench; 01-14-2022 at 09:35 AM. |
