Mirrors
The mirrors on my A are ugly as a redheaded stepsister. But I can see behind Me very well, I have been thinking about changing them to hinge type mirrors but am afraid of losing the vision. Tell me what you are using and if you like them. Thank you!

Re: Mirrors
I have a stock rear-view and two aftermarket hinge-mounted side view mirrors. None of them are great compared to a modern car, but I guess that is all part of the experience.

Re: Mirrors
Ditto, the hinge mirrors were the first accessory I bought when I bought the car.

Re: Mirrors
I too have the hinge pin mounted mirrors but I replaced the 4" heads with 5" heads from United Pacific to give me a little better 'view'.
I have been looking for a round 5" convex mirror head for the passenger side to no avail. Anyone know of one? Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 12-18-2017 at 12:42 AM. |

Re: Mirrors
Those are made by Grote who makes a lot of big rig lights and mirrors so I expect them to be of good quality.

Re: Mirrors
I glued a 4" Convex Mirror to the side mirror on my drivers side mirrors, don't get much use out of the passenger mirrors, but the convex is really an improvement for me.

Re: Mirrors
Yup...same here on our 30 Tudor only on the passenger side. Big improvement. Not perfect but better than it was.

Re: Mirrors
I just bought CIPA 48502, 5" Round Convex S.S. on the bay for about $6 shipped. I installed 4" hinge mirrors on both side. I don't know if the extra inch will made a big difference, but I'm sure the convex shape will help. It was hard to figure out the mounting post in the photos. I hope it won't be too much trouble to mount them on my hinge arms. The interior mirror is just about useless. I saw a service bulletin that covered a longer mount to lower the mirror. I couldn't find it offered by any of the usual vendors, so I fabricated one. It really helps looking out the back window.

Re: Mirrors
Why not just get a 24 inch silver plastic dome?

I see alot of them on ebay - wide range of prices. Please let us know how yours worked out for you.

Re: Mirrors
I went with 6 inch spot truck mirrors, the right being convex mounted on the hinge pins.

Re: Mirrors
I learned to backup with the side mirrors when refueling aircraft at Danbury airport during college. I got very good at it. There is nothing like maneuvering between two half million dollar airplanes to improve your concentration!
My tudor also has two hinge pin mirrors. I found them to be a little too small so stuck one of these mirrors. on each They fit just about perfectly and have two benefits. I can see more, and since they collect more light, are brighter. |

Re: Mirrors
I put two of these V8 style on my tudor, they are lower and where we look for a mirror driving today's cars. Easily removed.
