Which 1931 hub cap to buy.
I would like to buy a set of six to replace the ones that were probably put on in the sixties, surface rust.Just confused of all the options.Bratton's shows some that are reasonable enough some are very expensive. Some say flat some say domed at Ford script. Are all Vintique?I really just want a good quality set that will stay on and stay shiney.

I prefer the stainless steel 30-31 hub caps without the steel inner liner . I can usually straighten the stainless steel caps without the steel inner lining when they get bent . I used the domed at the script hubcaps because I think they are more like original .

A&L have the really nice stainless steel hub caps . They can sometimes pass fine point . Price might be a little higher but the quality is top shelf . Norm

Are some repro hub caps made flatter than others? Mine are a few years old by now but those wheel haven't been used.

Re: Which 1931 hub cap to buy.
I use the $10 '30 st. steel types which look close to originals. Easy to re buff except as stated the steel liner makes it difficult to knock out dents. At the cheaper price get a couple extras as back up.I only bend a few tabs over and use clear silicon to help secure, especially for the spares wheels to access the center bolt. The gaskets offered by vendors haven't worked for me.

Actually I've never ran into the curb . Sometimes small dents can happen on the thin stainless hubcaps . If or when it happens , I don't try to beat the dent out . I turn the cap over on a smooth hard surface and rub the dent out with a piece of wood from the back side . If the hubcap is badly bent, the dent can't be rubbed out . I bend the tabs in a V shape on my hubcaps so they can be removed and installed like modern hubcaps . Hub caps are cheap and may not be worth the trouble of trying to straighten . |
