What do these markings mean?
Hi, I think I know what I'm looking at here but please confirm. Right hand cylinder with the arrow pointing towards the front? Thanks in advance. I found this cylinder on the front left side of the truck.

Re: What do these markings mean?
I think you're right, John. The larger bore of the cylinder goes with the longer brake shoe which faces forward - with the Lockheed style brakes. If I'm in error, I'm sure someone will say so.

I've never seen on when an arrow on it. Somebody tried to make the installation idiot proof and it still not work.

Re: What do these markings mean?
Dale, don't forget that the wheel cylinder needs to be on the outboard side of the backing plate.

Re: What do these markings mean?
The markings look right to me.
Maybe the previous owner had to make an emergency repair and that was the only cylinder available there and then. It will work if fitted wrongly, just not as well as it should. Mart. |

Re: What do these markings mean?
I just finished converting mine from brake rods (mechanical) to hydro yesterday. My wheel cylinders did not have any arrows, here's pictures of Left & Right. Took quite awhile to bleed, had a leaking joint, fixed that, then adjusting shoes was a chore with the anchor bolt, early style on only one back plate, the other 3 were later style without the anchor's at bottom. My brakes are awesome now!
