39 standard seat
Question I have is about the seat in a '39. Were the coupes and tudor standards interchangeable in the '39s . I realize they fold open different but were they same dimension. thanks.

The correct coupe seats are readily available and reasonably priced. I'd advertised on the HAMB for one recently and was offered many. Priced from $200 (cheap) - $700 (idiot insane) , I'd purchased a beauty for $300.

Re: 39 standard seat
My first hot rod was a 39 deluxe coupe with a nail head in 1972. It had a split back bench seat which made it easy to access the area under the package tray. My newly acquired 40 standard coupe has the one piece back rest seat that is hinged at the top. What distinguishes what seat you have in a 40 coupe? Accessing the area behind the seat is not as handy as it was with the split bench. Am I right in assuming the business coupe with had the one piece back and the coupe with jump seats would of course have a split back?

The Coupe was fit the seat that had a one piece (solid) back rest - hinged at the top.

And to add to that, the 39 did not have auxiliary seats so it had the top hinged backrest - apparently the seat in Krylon's coupe had been changed. |

Yup and "An innovation for the time, sealed beam headlights of the '39." Not sure about the leather upholstery either. I know it could be ordered on 40 - dunno about 39. It looks like a really nice car but an "original survivor" it ain't. |

Re: 39 standard seat
Leather from the Factory was a fairly common option for the Canadian sourced Standards and Deluxes for us in New Zealand for 1939.
Available for both coupes and sedans. The 39 standard sedans with the leather option used the same stitching patterns as the deluxe. |

I've read that Ford discouraged leather in US 40's, or at least grudgingly provided it to save a sale only if customer insisted. Think there was a letter to dealers in that regard. Again, dunno about 39. |

This car is NOT as advertised. My guess is whomever is selling it either doesn't know the truth or doesn't want to know the truth. Cars like this scare me. I figure if the seller doesn't know better, oh oh. Or, if the seller does know better and continues to advertise the car as something it is plainly not, oh oh. Either way it's sliced - OH OH.

In post #10 above, I linked to a site that tells the story on the auxiliary seats. I don't think Joe Egle is the seller as he had the seats installed and is well aware they're not original for 39. I also chuckled at the seller's comment about the "innovation for the time, sealed beams headlights of the 39." Anyway, it looks like a nice car but it is NOT an "original survivor". |

Might be a nice car, but I'd caution anyone to bid on it as the car it is... a Nice "driver".
