Steering wheel removal
I have what I believe is a '39 Ford Deluxe banjo steering wheel and column/steering gear. How does one properly remove the horn button and switch to access the steering wheel retaining nut? I'll probably be selling this and just want to be able to separate. Thanks guys.

Re: Steering wheel removal
There is a switch at the base of the steering box. The tang to opperate the switch is held on by a horseshoe clip. Remove the clip by pushing the tang up and the horn rod will come out.
There are no holes to use a conventional puller to get the wheel off. I use a bearing seperator under the wheel with some rag pading. A conventional two jaw puller will then get it off with no damage. Do not hit or try to pull it off. |
