Default Manual Wipers, 29 CCPU

I got a new manual wiper from a vendor. I thought finally something simple to put together, one nut, what could go wrong. Alas I does not fit. My window frame is from a 28 AA and still has the original tube for the wiper. The new wiper is too short to fit thru the tube and allow the handle to bolt on. Also a very sloppy fit. Is there a bushing that goes in the tube? Maybe the AA used a different wiper. Any suggestions?

I think it is for an open car. The one Snyder's sells says the shaft
must be lengthened to work on closed cars.

I see where Burts says it has to be lengthened. Like so many other after market parts I have purchased, you have to make them fit.

That is what I had to do with the one I bought years ago. I found a length of steel rod that was the same diameter, cut the repro wiper shaft and welded the appropriate length of rod in. Yes, seems that there is always something to tweak, but at least we can get reproductions and don't have to make many/all of the parts from scratch.

FirstA, I had the same problem when I was restoring my 29 82A. The repop wiper shaft is too short and is chrome plated. Call Burt's in Colorado and see if they have an original wiper in stock. It should be painted black before you install it.

I agree, I remember the 70's and difficulty in finding Model A parts.

I have had several untouched originals and not seen any bushings. The wiper shafts moved easy without excessive slop. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has done some research on this
