Talking '47 trim screw set- not Phillips

New to post war V8s. My '47 convertable is fully restored but all the interior trim screws have Phillips heads. Am I correct that they should be standard slotted screws?
If so who carries them?
Thanks,
David

Try (call) Roy. If he doesn't have them he will tell you where to get them.

hope that helps...

Slot head screws, I pieced them together from bolt depot (old car with different sizes and I used stainless). I like Mcmaster and they're close but they didn't have a good selection of slot head in stainless.

Roy would still be my first call. You might save a dollar, maybe even $2 . But he has kits and knows his stuff. Parkerized and hard to find. He won't try and sell you something that you don't want.

More options.

When you say interior trim screws, what trim pieces are you talking about. For instance the windshield trim screws are Phillips head.

David, I believe mine are original and all are Phillips head screws.

Good luck,

I am not certain whether or not ALL interior screws are Phillips type but for certain all of the window moldings and door handles utilized Phillips.

Buying the fastener collections are great time savers. My stock 46 certainly has Phillips head fasteners for many interior features, including the window garnishes.

I have found that the stainless machine screws are a lot cheaper at Lowe's. I just take one of the old ones there and compare them to the packaged SS screws. Just bought a few the other day for my Corvette that were less than half the price of the specialty stores that sell reproduction parts. Plus I don't have to pay outrageous shipping by buying local.

According to every thing I seen written, Ford changed to Phillips screws in the 1946 models. 1942 was the last year they used slotted screws.

Well, my 46 has a mix of slotted and Phillips. The interior windshield trim had slotted while the side window garnishes were Phillips.

About the only completely true statement one might offer on post war cars is that materials varied.

Hey guys a great response to my questions, thank you. it sounds like I should leave all the Phillips in place in the car as it is likely they are correct.
Despite this car being a very nice restoration it had the modern cylinder coil instead of the correct one in place. I have a correct rebuilt from Skip ready to go in.
I've heard they use machine screws to mount to the bracket but now I wonder if they should be slotted or Phillips??
Thanks.

Phillips head screws are a lot easier as far as a production line assembly. The Phillips screwdriver self centers and prevents scratching of the trim. Try it yourself and it's easy to see it's a lot quicker with the Phillips screw head. My '46 is an original vehicle and all Phillips are used.

Check with Tractor Supply, they have a good selection of nuts and bolts. They sell them by weight not by count. They have all grades of bolts
