Re: Early left handbrake
This is like the one in my 28 Pickup - 'xcep for the rust and aluminum paint. It is missing the return spring that fit around the rod on the inside and the pin that conect the pawl. Picture does not show it, but, the squeeze part of the handle is hollow- as in pressed out of sheet metal.
The lever in my pickup has as a squeeze handle a solid piece of alminum cut and fitted to the same shape at the squeeeze part shown here. Works great and unless you get your head under the dash no one can tell. Too bad judges. |

Re: Early left handbrake
Does anyone make a replacement squeeze handle? My brake works but the handle is missing the squeeze lever so it won't lock into place. I haven't found anyone who makes one for the early left hand levers.I have been told that the T model is similar but won't work.

Re: Early left handbrake
I looked at my two handles closely. The squeeze part from a late 28 handle will fit the early 28 handle. Nobody sells just the squeeze part.

Re: Early left handbrake
The center mount squeeze handles are fairly common so you should be able to locate one that you can get the squeeze part from. It is an easy fix.

Re: Early left handbrake
What kind of rivet or fastener do you use to reassemble it?

Re: Early left handbrake
For my later 1928 parking brake handle I got an aluminum oversized rivet from a semi trailer repair place and turned it to size on my lathe. Since then I seem to recall someone making and selling the correct rivet for the handle.

Re: Early left handbrake
I have two comments. First I had about 8 of the early 1928 squeeze handle levers in new old stock. I sold them here on ford barn and sales were slow virtually one at a time but they are now gone. I see them now in Snyders catalog for for $45 under part A-2713-A. I sold my NOS for $10 each and interest was very tiny so Snyders price is apparently high to offset tooling coats for a limited market.
Secondly Ford made an early 1928 left hand handle with a push button to replace the squeeze. I have one available in NOS if anyone is interested. This handle can be seen in the Ford parts book that covers 1928-32 and is pictured as A2705-R on page 6. |

Re: Early left handbrake
Bert's had the original rivit several years ago when I sent mine to be plated. They also had the grip. This was 2005, but would imagine they still offer both. The original squeeze grip was potmetal. The replacement is nickle plated steel. Rod

Re: Early left handbrake
Thanks to Barnstuff for confirming that the push-button left side brake handle was original. My car was assembled in Montreal, if that makes a difference. Car had a June 28, 1928 cowl stamp.

Re: Early left handbrake
We have the pistol part of the early left side brake handle new and the rivet for it.
We have the spring for that same handle used as well. Originally, MOST left hand handles had the solid aluminum pistol part, and the center mounted handles had the pressed steel pistol part. The one being made now, is steel and needs to be pplated, but , when installed looks just like the originals. Steve Becker Berts Model A Center |

Re: Early left handbrake
I bought two early squeeze type levers. On one the squeeze part is pressed steel all rusty. The other is a hollow cast alloy, looks like aluminum. You can see the injection spot on the inside. I'm going to use that one on my left side handbrake lever.
