Default Re: What year Harley?

The shock or ride control stuff is missing or a person could narrow it down further. The shock absorber came out for the post war 1946 models but it used the same mounting lugs as the older adjustable ride control. The headlamp and horn mountings were the same for the years 1940 thru 48. In 49, the hydraglide front end was introduced but it would have been a pan head anyway. There are a lot of characteristics that can't be seen or it could be narrowed further. Chrome stuff was generally optional. If it was set up with black painted components then they usually stayed that way unless the owner was a mechanic and like to add the stuff later. Dealers would set up machines with a lot of chrome for the impulse buyers but the guy on the cheap would add it later. HD did a lot of business selling accessories and they still do.
