8ba in 36 5 window
Has anyone any experience in handling steady rod installation on an 8ba in a 36 5 window with a 39 transmission.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Look here:
https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=163974 and https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-coupe.243922/ one of the biggest problems is making the 8BA fan set up work. Modification is needed. Here is a thread that tells how another Fordbarn member did it. Read last thread and links. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...8ba+1936+coupe Last edited by 19Fordy; 03-21-2019 at 05:22 PM. |

Had a 50 Merc engine in a 36 convertible back in the 50's. Don't remember any problems.

Marvin, you may have to turn/grind forged stop off, then run a thread die on for 1" or so. Spin first nut down to have adjustable stop. Trap bellhousing with second nut. Lock washers.

Re: 8ba in 36 5 window
Look at 19forty links. best to my knowledge the fan becomes an issue, thought about doing it once. Angled radiator on a 36.
Truck engine parts will link to a earlier transmission. Waterpumps needed too and the oil pan. Trucks still had a straight axle. Had a cracked truck block with all the goodies. Pasted it to a club member. Some more to read https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?p=991078 https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-coupe.243922/ Some more... on 8ba/rt to 39 trans. https://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161099 Best of luck, hope to see the progress! Re: 8ba in 36 5 window
Seems fairly clear to me. Not sure I totally agree with the approach, but I understand what is suggested. 34p-kup is recommending grinding the original flange off (most likely forged, not case) so the stay rods are a consistent diameter. Then using a die to thread the section where the flange was and using a nut on either side of the hole in the bellhousing/block so that the effective length of the stay rods are adjustable. The issue I see is that the 8ba does not have the holes required for the stay rods, correct. So, a plate needs to be added to accommodate the rods.

Re: 8ba in 36 5 window
Thank you for clearing that up for me. When I installed an 8BA in 40 Ford I welded ears to the stamped steel Merc bellhousing. Made shorter rods and sold the originals. Worked out fine and dandy.
