Default Cadmium Plating finish...

Does anyone know just how "bright" was Ford's Model A/AA Cadmium parts were?

Were they very bright, medium bright, or more of a whitish gray color or otherwise?

I have seen todays Cad plated parts that are very bright in appearance.

Thanks.

Pluck

I "faked" cad by spraying them with Dull Alujimum spray paint & a wisp of Satin Clear.

Why fake Cadmium plating? it is cheap.

I used a set of Cadmium plated lug nuts on one car, on the thought that 'original design was better.' However, I found that they wore and weathered poorly, turning quite milky after only two years of use. I have since swapped them out for Mike's polished stainless steel lug nuts, and have had no regrets.

Steve, from my experiences the general consensus in F/P adjudication is bright-white plating.

Like many other original finishes that Ford used, they weren't always the best quality finishes that could have been used, but it is what it is and if someone is restoring, then it is about trying to mimic authentically.
