Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
Meanwhile, progress on this Australian 1938 Ford Standard Roadster is coming along nicely. These photos were taken late last year. The owner is missing the small chrome piece that fits on the grille below the piece that has the Hole for the Crank Handle. He has this piece, but is missing the small chrome piece that fits below this. He is also missing the chrome surround around the Radio Grille. Can anyone on Ford Barn help him out? |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
Thanks u guys for the compliments...Have to admit though its still is probably the case mine is a fake, well its a real club but the reason its a roadster is the doors were in such horrible shape paper thin after being de rusted and stress cracked all over the top, I decided to firm them up I caped the top and roadster ed it.The original fenders were different from what Iv ever seen, they appeared to be hand made and shaped out of a series small pieces shaped and gas welded to gather, nice work though,,the rears are the originals and the fronts are US ford stamped. Its was originally a delux

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
So, in the end, it appears that Australia is the only country that offered a genuine 1938 Ford Standard Roadster.

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
This is what the Genuine 1938 Ford Standard Roadster looked like a few years ago. Compare it with how it looked late last year and see the transformation. It won't be long before it is looking better than new. Keep watching. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
Purists will be happy to note that the new owner restoring this car has re-positioned the Windscreen Wipers to their correct location on the Cowl. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
CAF, Even our 1938 Ford Deluxe Roadsters had that extra opening to eliminate blind spots. Ford Australia never offered the Convertible until 1939, and the same body was carried over into 1940, and that was the last time Ford in Australia offered various body styles. From 1941, all that was available was the 4 door Sedan, and a Coupe Ute, plus a Panel Van (that is what we called your Sedan Delivery) until 1948, and this one disappeared, just leaving the Sedan and Ute until 1958. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
Illustration of the Australian 1940 Ford Deluxe Roadster from the original Sales Brochure. You can see that it also has similar roof treatment. Yes, this 1940 Ford is a Roadster, not a Convertible. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
While we are on topic of 1938 Ford Standard models, here is another model that is unique to Australia. The 1938 Ford Standard Club Coupe. In the USA, the Club Coupe body style was only available as a Deluxe model, but in Australia, we got a choice of Standard or Deluxe. This one is wearing after market Headlight Rims to accommodate Sealed Beam Headlights. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
This is the only other Australian 1938 Ford Deluxe Club Coupe that I know of. It's Body Number 65, while the Maroon one shown earlier is Body Number 49. From these figures, I don't believe that many have survived. As for Roadster Numbers, this one that prompted this Thread is the only one that I have ever seen. Unfortunately, for the Roadsters, it appears that Body Numbers for the Roadsters are not separated between the Standard and Deluxe models. These Body Numbers are separated on the other body styles, but not for the Roadsters, strange. |

Re: Rare 1938 Ford Standard Roadster
Late to the party here but the '38 Std roadster was originally from Coffs Harbour area in NSW which is where the shed photos are from. It started out around $30k in Unique Cars magazine and the price steadily dropped. Last I saw it was in Victoria but still for sale by the Coffs owner's family so it's good to see it is being restored.
