Default 2 Blade Fan

Im changing from a 4 blade to a 2 blade after doing valve job. I bought the fan from Snyders. Has anybody bought one from them? Mine came with what looks like a crack and casting flaw that is powder coated over. Is this normal for a recasting assy.

Don't Know about crack in casting but be sure and scrape the Powder Coating out of the taper area that mounts on shaft. I bought 30 model that had a knock that turned out to be the powder coating had flowed out and left fan loose on water pump shaft ate the keyway and shaft up. Previous owner thought it was Timing gear and replaced them, knock was still there so he sold it as is! I replaced Fan and pump quiet as a mouse now.

Talk to Snyder's, if it is defective I'm sure they will make it right.

I've had Snyders fans on several cars I have owned. At one time the advice around town was make sure of the taper before you buy. That problem has been resolved and I have never had a replacement that didn't bolt on and use with no adverse effects. The powder coating issue is easily handled with a pocket knife. In your example, if it were mine I'd get on the phone and find out what they will recommend. They do take care of business in a professional manner.

I bought another from Snyder and just like Daveymc29 says Pocket Knife will cut that powder coating right out of there! I cut it out with the pocket knife I have been carrying since 1962. The previous owner did not do that though. always good luck with Snyders Parts.

I bought a 2 blade recently from Snyders and it was fine. Not sure about your crack.

As synchro says, pictures please.

I would not take a chance if you think there is a crack in blade.

I have had a fan blade fail while driving. Not pretty. Enjoy.

Just too many stories about cracked two blade fans breaking and damaging the cars and people. I bought one several years ago from Snyders and some months later noticed a noise thought to be timing gears. Took the cover off and the gears were fine. I noticed a crack in the fan which was about to let loose. Replaced it with a four blade plastic fan and will never go back to the two blade type. Points cars would be another point, however.

I have used many Aluminum two blade fansfrom Snyders and had no problem, but in this case I would call Snyders. I am sure they will replace it.

I think that is a parting line flash that didn't get ground off smooth before the powder coating.
I would call Snyder's and return it to be Safe tho.

That looks like a crack in the hot die that the fan was cast in to me. I have had lots of experience with the die cast industry since 1969 and to me it looks like a crack in the die it's self and is transferred on to the part or casting from which it came out of. I still would do some investigation.

Send that picture to snyder’s. They will work with you. I wouldn’t install that on my A. It’s not worth all of the problems you will have if the blade lets go.

Grind that down and you will only find the casting mark.

If you modify the fan, Snyder's may not take it back. Call them, they'll probably send you a replacement.

Snyder and Mikes are great vendors. If you don't modify it they will replace it for you. Just give them a call. Do not use this one to be on the safe side.
