Perhaps contacting one of the many engine re-builders and parts suppliers in your area will point you in the right direction.

Any competent machine shop should have a Magniflux system. At our shop we check all blocks prior to commencing work. Most, if not all, have cracks somewhere. The question is whether they make the block acceptable for rebuilding. It certainly prevents having a rebuild retuned if there problems.

Make sure they check the valley. Had a crack in there that showed up after another shop pressure tested. Yep, you guess it, shop went ahead and did machine work too.

Magnafluxing any Flathead block is "secondary"!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Pressure-testing is "primary", with magna fluxing you cannot possibly see every "nook & cranny" in this castings. Both methods are always recommended, but the pressure-testing is always first.

You have to do both...
Pressuretesting exposes hidden issues that you eye canīt find...
Magnafluxing shows structural flaws and beginning cracks that donīt leak...

Internally a pressure test is the only way.

Magnafluxing will scare the scrap out of you and show minute hidden issues even if it holds pressure. Most will be fine for a long long time.
