Default 94 and 97 carb value

Have 2 of each, 94 and big number 97 carbs.

Am clearing out shed.

Have a dude who wants a price on them.

What should I ask ?

All 4 are very good and complete.

Which is the best to keep and which to sell ?

Tell him you'll have to fight your wife for them, 'cause she's got plastic flowers in them on the fireplace mantle! "Very good and complete" sounds like "decent cores" to me, and as such, the 94's each ought to bring $40 US, and the 97's double that. Don't give up the plastic flowers.

Is there any reason a 97 is worth more?

Reason I asked which to sell and which to keep, is because I put a nice clean 97 on my 221, so want to either keep one as a spare or would fit a 94 if that is a better carb and sell all the 97/s.

Which way to go ?

Which is the better carb is a matter of preference. The Big number 97 is way more demand and commands the higher price.

My god, man, You're running a 221 in your model A camper? How much weight does that camper add? What's your differential ratio? That's an awesome looking job! If you were Stateside with that, you could tailgate at any NFL game and be drinking & eating for free!

Thanks Guys, I got a bit bored a couple of years ago, so I knocked that up.

PM sent on running gear ford39v8 as this is a resto site and I might get into strife.

It weighs 550 kilos about 1230 pounds.
The sidevalve is in my traditional hiboy.

Pooch, You have 4 carbs, right? You want to know which of the two varieties is best. Why not try each carburetor on your motor? You'll soon know which is best and what to sell...Just trying to help you out here, but, really, the best carb is the one that goes best in your application, and there's only one way to find out.....
The 97 was original equipment from 1936 until about the end of 38, after which the 94 became standard fitment, in various guises for the rest of the flathead years. Accordingly, many more 94's are around. Now....all this stuff is getting on in years, we don't know how any particular component has been treated over the years. So, the first thing, after initial visual check of component is to fit it to a known engine and run it. You know your engine...you'll very soon know how each different component runs in relation to what it's just replaced. Irrespective of which carburetor has the most 'value' to the masses, the most valuable carburetor to you is the best performing one. Do not sell your 97's because they command more dollars if your engine runs best with them. You may find you have one excellent running example each of 97 and 94.

My experience with carburetors hasn't been very good, I could never make a stromburg run right, if it didn't work right in the first place and they alway leaked. The 94 was OK, because it usually work all right in the first placed. Now when it comes to rebuilding these carbs, The 97/48 go to Uncle Max. The 94's can be rebuilt with the right KIT and you can get one from Charly NY or Daytona Carb. However I thik Charleys kits are better. BUt, I don't rebuild carbs, I'll send them to Max, or Charleey.
Now with all this said, there is one carb that always works and that's a 2GC, I can actually make one of ther run pretty well, hard to find parts tho.

Right on, Ol' Ron. I have a small base 2GC on the '51 Merc ion my '51 club coupe and it is working super! I would save the 97's and 94's for restorations.

I have one too, I'll have to get a PV and accel pump from Charley and put it on the 280. Should get good gas mileage.
