Model T Transmission
My 1926 roadster pickup when I push the forward band it is almost to the floor when it takes hold, I know it needs adjusted but it feels like you are putting the brake on. Do you think there is a bearing going out? If anyone has input to this it would be much appreciated!

Unless the band material is worn, needing replacing, start by adjusting the low band. With full pressure on the pedal, you should be about 1 to 1-1/2 inches above the floor. Are you using the parking brake handle to hold in neutral while doing this? If you are, how far back are you pulling the handle? You could be pulling it too far back and applying the parking brakes.
There are just bushing in the transmission, no bearings. Not enough information to guess if bushing are good or bad.

When people drove their Model T's in their era the bands were constantly adjusted and relined. Best way to give longer life to the bands besides Kevlar is to engage the bands quickly, and not allowing slippage like you would with a modern clutch.

First thing to look at are worn pedal cams and the slow speed notch. On every Model T I have owned they were worn out and needed replacing.
Then check the band linings out and if they need to be replaced buy new springs also. Finally, Yes the pedal stems are usually bent from years of stomping down hard and need to be bent back some. Bending the pedals is a easy way out but if the band lining and the cams/notch are not replaced one is wasting their time. Do it all at one time and never worry about it again. |

1. get The Model T Ford Owner by Murray Fahnestock in section one assemblies great info on the transmission. 2. get Re-lining the bands on a Model T Ford by Milton Webb with the first book and Milts guidebook these two publications fill in all the blanks. 3. Check out the various Mike Bender videos and he has several dedicated to bands and pedal alignment. If and when you pull the hogshead get a buddy to help, your back and neck will thank you. When the time comes to change the bands,,,, ( I always like to spread this tip )
An accomplished T veteran once spoke of an incident he went through. While reaching his fingers deep in tn the trans his arm bumped the start button. Moral unhook the battery, during this task.
