Default Placement of cotter pins and lower springs on Flathead Ted install

Season Greetings to all.

I am redoing my Flathead Ted front brakes and see/read conflicting statements on cotter pin and lower spring placement.

#1--Do the cotter pins go on the outside of the front shoes or the back?

#2--Do the lower springs hook on the outside or inside of the front shoes?

Thanks very much.

Cotter pins to the back, springs outside.make sure your adjuster pins slide easy and are greased.Took a bit of time fitting the lower roller pins, they can't hit the backing plate,a little touch on the pins with a grinder fixed my issue.Once you do get them fit they are amazing..the instructions are a little tough.

Jack is correct. Originally the head of the pin sat on the plate at the back which controlled the up and down position of the brake shoe. This feature is not used with the Flathead Ted system. The pins are reversed so that the head is on the outside away from the plate. The cotter pins can interfere with the brake shoe action. Ted's instructions show the correct cotter key position but it is a little confusing. Just test the brake action and if not right change the cotter key position.

What is contradicting is the Diablo cd shows the cotter pin placement on the outside.
