Default Is there a washer on the brass carb adjusting needle seat?

I just received a brass carburetor adjusting needle seat for a Zenith carb from one of the suppliers. It didn't come with a washer, but I'm pretty sure there should be one, right?

Thanks!
Mike

UPDATE: THE ANSWER IS YES! CONFIRMED BY TWO SOURCES:

(1) FORD SERVICE BULLETIN, P 415-416 (see post #12 - by John Buckley)
(2) STEVE @ BERT'S

(Just thought I'd add this update so when I forget next time, I'll be able to find it again!)

Mike is that the one for adjusting the air? If so I think you are correct and doesn't it need a spring?

Retracting my post because of information posted by johnbuckley further down. Thank you for the correction.

Hi Fred! Long time no see! We think about you every time we go to the coast and pass by your old house.

The one I'm talking about is for the GAV that the gas adjusting needle fits into to regulate the amount of gas going into the carb. The earlier Zenith lower castings have a small brass fitting that screws into there but the later ones don't. I'm pretty sure there should be a washer on it, but can't seem to find a diagram showing that. The repro I bought didn't come with one, so it's making me wonder.

Thanks! Seems it would leak without a washer. Do you put Permatex or anything in it?

Problem is my GVA doesn't seem to work and the car runs fine (but maybe a little rich) with the GVA turned completely off. I'm not running an air filter and the float valve seems to be adjusted ok. The GVA knob is not loose on the shaft so I'm certain the needle is turning. I was thinking the needle may not be entirely seating or the brass seat may be allowing gas to pass by.

Are you sure you have the correct seat installed? The it looks almost the same but would not have the seat for the needle and would fit in the hole/threads. It's the brass screw in piece in the bowl itself.

Many thanks for taking time to post diagrams!

Yup, it's the brass seat as shown:

https://www.brattons.com/carburetor-...edle-seat.html

and not the comp jet that goes in the bowl. The GVA doesn't work. It's all the way off and the car still runs fine. Here's what I'm checking:

(1) air filter can restrict air flow
(2) float valve set too high
(3) leaking needle seat
(4) Comp jet larger than cap jet

It seems that if the needle seat did not have a gasket, gas could leak by.

Took the old one off....no gasket on the GAV. Got the new one......no gasket included. So......I had the same question with the same results. I just put a small dab of Blue Permatex gasket sealer around the last few threads at the wrench end of the GAV, not the needle end as you don't want sealer plugging up the hole......problem solved. No leaks. With that said, I would have to say I don't think the original design called for a gasket anyway, but a tiny bit of Permatex goes a long way.

Oh dear , this may turn out like "what oil do you use"!
Page 415/6 of the service bulletins book [Jan (32?)] gives details of the change over and states that the old style seat and washer ( which we now call a gasket) will be held for service. ( and the contemporary parts list has the "washer" too)
New current score Yes 3, No 1

Washer or no Washer reminds me, two stick figures, made from Welding Rod, on a wood base. The Womans' welding rod hair flowing, as the Man chases her. His body is a SCREW & Hers' is a NUT. The Caption reads, "NO"!!! NOT WITHOUT A WASHER"!!!

John: THANKS! (why didn't I think of looking there?). That's pretty definitive! It's interesting that given so many Zenith carburetors had the brass needle seat none of the parts suppliers mention the washer, which has been identified by a specific part number (A-22086).

The suggestion of a dab of blue Permatex is certainly worthy of consideration.

Thanks to all for your input!
