Do yourself a huge favor and discuss your situation with Richard Lacy at the Early V8 Garage website I've linked for you below. DD

Here is a picture of my set-up for the Master cylinder. It is a Mustang dual master cylinder. I mounted it under the drivers side and moved the battery to the RHS. I used a bell crank from another pedal assembly that had been cut off. It works perfectly and smooth. You can also see the full flow oil filter that I installed in the same area. Easy to change.

Here's a few views of the sanitary setup that Richard Lacy developed. I snagged this picture off the internet (this site?) last year. It doesn't get much neater than this.

I've been wondering the same thing, only with a '33 truck. Right now the truck has swinging pedals on it and because of this the firewall is all hacked up. I'd like to move it back under the seat, only I'll probably still use a hydraulic clutch setup as well which complicates things more. I have found a couple places that sell the setup for both, however I'm not sure how much hacking I'd need to do and the setup is between 300-500 dollars which is quite expensive for something like this.

I've also read someplace that a 39 Ford pedal setup will work with minor modification? Not sure on that.

A huge THANKS to all who recommended our stuff and for posting the photo sheet. My little CS website developed a "malfunction" awhile ago and I learned today that it is too old to fix... So I will now have to get off my *%@ and make a new one - standby! Meanwhile, my e-mail is [email protected]

I did send Phil a setup for his '34 RHD model and he reported that it actually fit,
which is always a big relief when something is shipped "down under" which
is not cheap.

Also, thanks to Bengt Sare in Sweden, I now have a set of RHD pedals for a 32
and will be (attempting to) designing a setup for that. The pedal lever is way
inboard, so it appears that a new approach will be required...

I have been a little busy and not been on the Barn for quite awhile. I will try to
do better!

Richard

Lots of $ & effort for conversion of a very effective mechanical brake system. Properly adjusted, with a modern cam actuator, they will outlast all those rubber parts and fluid in a hydraulic system. If it'stored more than driven, mechanicals win hands down.

I just finished installing one of Richard's kits and it was a wonderful thing. Everything
fit and worked perfect. It looks so good I just stood there and stared at it for a while.
The brackets and brake lines are a work of art.

Another vote for keeping the mechanical brakes.

IMO, getting mechanical brakes to work well is an inexpensive proposition compared to converting to hydraulics.

You just need to chase down all the little places in the linkage that are sloppy or loose fitting. Making sure the brake rods are straight and getting the cross shaft bushings redone.

I've had the sensation of pushing on the hydraulic brakes and 'SQUISH'. Not a good feeling.

If you carefully follow "The ABC's of Brake Adjustment" as provided in the service bulletins, and remove the play from the linkages you will end up with very serviceable adequate brakes for driving these cars as intended 50-55mph.

65-70 on the freeway is a different matter I guess.

BTW we have a source for totally rebuilding cross shafts with new shaft and oilite bushings. Runs about $95 which includes a new return spring.

Good luck.

Richard makes a exaltant product and a car that have been butchered around with no pedals etc, they are ideal .There is also a alternative for people wanting to run closer to stock with minimum modifications ,As Russcc posted there is this energizer kit for 34s for people who want to retain the rods and most of the internials and the external appearance this could be a good option .PM me if you want to know more .On testing brake readings have been higher than hydraulics .Ted

Testimonial
I ordered a Model A brake energizer kits and have since installed it on my Tudor. It is an excellent modification. I have the best brakes on any Model A I have ever been around. I have increased interest in some of my Club members on this modification. I would like to order two more kits .

Ted: Actually our conversions are designed so that NO butchering of anything is involved and uses factory holes in most cases, and no need to relocate the battery, and uses original pedals. For those who MUST keep mechanical brakes, Ted is the man. Otherwise, there is a good alternative to convert to hydraulics while doing no harm. I designed them with original cars in mind, not butcher jobs!
