Re: Turn Signals
Check with the Ford Parts suppliers, most of them should carry a good unit. They are a "joy" to install... Maybe I'm just lazy but, I find it easier to stick my arm out the window... trouble is, most people don't know what a hand signal is... Didn't they take Drivers Ed...

Re: Turn Signals
Vic, both my kids got thier licenses around 2000 and I know the i structor who taught them, he said they no longer teach hand signals as everything has built in signals. THey spend less time on the basics ( and it shows in the young ) and most of the time on computer simulations and the tests they give at DMV. I think they need to go back to basics and teach those skills to new drivers. Also teach common courtesy.
Josh- Look on Ebay, you'll find add on kits or every once in a while the factory signal unit. Go to www.shoeboxford.com and he has the factory stuff, but pricey.

Re: Turn Signals
Barry, I agree with you! I had both my kids driving Flathead Fords with three speeds (on the floor and on the column), proficiently, before they could get their drivers license... They didn't really like it then but they thank me now, both of them drive floor shift cars.

Re: Turn Signals
If you do install turn signals I would recommend including a BrakeLighter, it is a high mount 3rd BrakeLighter and adds greatly to visibility. Those old tail lights can be pretty dim against those modern LED lights.
http://www.jandlenterprise.com/products/products.htm I installed one in my 36 and it was really easy and effective. |

Re: Turn Signals
I have a 36 on which I installed turn signals with the kit from C&G. Since the Brakelighter is LED, won't I have to change the flasher?

Re: Turn Signals
You shouldn't need to. I am still using my NAPA 6-volt and it works fine.

Re: Turn Signals
I just hooked up the BrakeLighter to my current system without any other changes and it seems to be working fine.

Re: Turn Signals
You could take your time and find and buy the correct turn signal for a 1949-1950 Ford, the SXTS-B. They are on Ebay now and then sometimes very cheap sometimes not. They were a very well made accessory supplied to Ford by RBM and were made in my hometown not China.

Re: Turn Signals
Joshua - Just add my endorsement of the Brakelighter. Easy to install and works great. For front signal lights you might consider installing the dual filament sockets. Easy to find and not that difficult to install.
