Default Model B Motor Serial # Question

I have an overhead valve Crager head on the model B motor in my 1930 roadster. The serial number of the motor starts with the Star then the letter and number R4-.....M, then 5 numbers and ends with the letter M. I can't find any reference for B motors on any sites with that beginning letter number configuration. Is anyone here familiar with that configuration?
Thanks

I have seen a number of blocks with that configuration (or with RF-....), all from Northern California. Some have suggested that these blocks originated from the Richmond, CA Ford plant as replacement engines, some time in the 1930's and early 1940's.

It may be a diamond block, these were replacement engines supplied by Ford in the late 30's and also used as industrial engines.

The original "B" engines that went into 32 -34 Fords were not stamped with a serial number like the Model A engines. The B engine had the serial number on the top of the flywheel housing.

The B engines built at Fords Dagenham England plant had the serial stamped on the block pad .British law required the engine itself to be stamped .

My B engine has no number on the side like the A engines do.

I think Model B Serial Numbers were on the Bell Housing.

If the markings on the block have Three numbers after the letters R & M, like ” R 010” and “M 020”; it is probably an engine rebuilders marking for the Rods (R) and Main’s (M) size.
