Default How to repair panel truck rear door latches

I have done a few of these but this time I took pics. Maybe it will help someone out. Usually the spring is wasted or the plate at the end of the spring is gone. Pics explain it all. Drill into the little dimple on the striker with a #3 drill. There is a small groove in the rod so keep checking and don't go too far. The striker will easily twist off the rod or may need a wrench to help twist off the rod. Tap the hole for 1/4-28. Can get springs from ACE hardware. The original spring is 2.5 inches long and 7/16 diameter. I've used both a 2-5/8 or 3 inch long X 7/16 spring with good results. Assemble. Tighten set screw till flush. Spot or plug weld cover back on.

This is a rear plate replacement made from a washer.

Are all those holes on the plates where you drilled spot welds?

I'm sure the panel guys on FTE would love to see this, nice work!

Thanks. The first set of pics none of the factory spots held and the latch fell apart when removed The second set all the spots held too well and Ford did a bunch of them on both sides.
