Original roadster @ convention
How's this for original? Near as I could tell it had original top and upholstery. Door and cowl bottoms were still solid.
These kind of Model A's hold a wealth of info for the restorer and they're rare to find! ........It probably drew more attention than any single car at the meet and hopefully will be preserved in this state. It appeared to be a runner... |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
I'm pretty sure it was an American car.
Slot head screws. Engine number began with A. It had a 1930 Pennsylvania plate. I was sorry to not get pics of the blue ribbon cars. They were one step ahead of me the whole time, and then in the judging arena when I finally had to leave. Being self employed dictates my available time pretty much, so I had to scoot on Wednesday. |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
It's great to see such a car. So many Roadsters have been converted to DeLuxe, it is refreshing to see a Standard one, especially an unrestored original. Gar Williams

Looks like a perfect project for Marco. I'm sure there are some things he'd like to do differently the next time.

Re: Original roadster @ convention
Its a 30 Standard Roadster; the windshield and top bows are the are the giveaway. You can also see the welting seam in the runningboard shield. Doesn't appear to have the usual rust out in the bottom of the cowl. It also appears to be an early 30 as the cowl band doesn't extend below the lower bead; probable the cowl band is held in place with studs in the cowl band.
What a neat vehicle, shouldn't be restored, just cleaned up. |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
Agree, on the just cleaned up.
You didn't by any chance take a photo of the dash that would reveal if the dash rail screws were painted, or plated? |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
I agree with Ron in Quincy- a car this complete should be cleaned up, preserved & driven. NOT restored. replace the top if it's in tatters, but just keep the rest as is.

Re: Original roadster @ convention
What a great car !
One way to enhance the remaining paint, without destroying the patina, is to rub the car down with a rag, using WD40, yes WD40 ! It will also make the rust look better. This is what "finders" of original old motorcycles do. Just test it on a small area first, to see if you like it. You can always wash it out, if you don't. It makes the whole car look richer, rust and all ! MIKE |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
Mike, most of us use Gibbs now. Superior to WD as it does not evaporate. It will absolutely not hurt original paint. I've used it on my Hendersons and Indians for years. I also used it initially to clean my original '30 coupe without harming the paint.

Re: Original roadster @ convention
I saw this car at Vancouver and immediately fell in love with it. If it were mine I would put some new tires on it, go through the drive train, put a decent radiator in it, upholster the seat, and maybe a new fabric top to make it a reliable driver. The rest would be left as is because of it's charm and character. And then I would drive it everywhere.
Like most Model A's that have endured and not been molested by modern day hobbyist this Model A has been molested somewhat by era folks trying to keep it on the road. Just casually looking it over you can easily identify things that are not correct, but it adds to it's character. I don't believe you could use this car as a study of what is supposed to be correct for the month and year. Tom Endy |

Re: Original roadster @ convention
STEVE CICCALONE .........................
GIBBS is better, eh ? I did not know that. I will try to remember that. I've never been lucky enough to find an old "barn find" motorclcle, but I have spruced up several smaller items with WD40. I have quite a bit of Indian memorabelia and one piece for Henderson. I have a cardboard sign, advertising for "Rider Agents Wanted" - New Super-X & 4-Cylinder. It looks to be about 1920. It is from Middlesboro, Ky. It has a picture of a big 4 cyl. on it. I have some period real photos of the Hendersons too. MIKE |
