Default 1936 fenders to body cage nut size

I need to replace and order a few cage nuts for my 1936 Cabriolet.
What size should I ask for? They are for the body so the fenders can bolt up.
Thanks.

5/16 fine equals 5/16 - 24

JUST for the "Record" and to get "Technical" S.A.E. does NOT quantify anything to do with Diameter, Length or thread pitch.......IT merely means

Society of Automotive Engineers!!!!! SO to say 5/16 SAE means NOTHING!!!! Unless you are speaking of Flat Washers!!!!

Best stated as Don Rogers has done, namely diameter and threads per inch.

I believe you've stated that you're in the fastener business. But more importantly, I used to think that you were a "car guy". Even though the USS standard is no longer supported, it was incorporated with the SAE fastener standard into the Unified Thread Standard, which undoubtedly, you already know. Nevertheless, the term USS continues to be commonly-used today by car guys AND others to colloquially describe inch based threaded fasteners with a "coarse" thread pitch, along with the term SAE to reference a "fine" thread pitch...…"Non-Technically" speaking. Interesting discussion regarding S.A.E. Here's a clipping from a Ford fastener catalogue from the 40's. Notice SAE (fine)and USS (course) designations.

But in the '30s, Ford did not use either the SAE or the USS designations.
