40 Heater fan motor disassembly tips??

I'm resurrecting a stock 40 heater for my newly acquired 40 coupe and am looking for some tips on disassembling the fan motor so I can solder on new wires.

One of the attaching through bolts came right out but one just turns and will not come out even with some "gentle" persuasion. Any tips?

Any advice on separating the two covers once (if) I get the bolt out?

Anyone have pics of the wire replacement process?

The motor works good, but I want to replace the old, clipped cloth wires. The motor is dated Nov 1939 and still has its original wrinkle paint.

Sure don't want to screw anything up.

You may have tap the housing carefully while trying to remove screw /bolt, because the
threads are hanging up where they go through the field core. Don't worry It will come out.
I have taken many apart for frayed wires and half ended up in the trash can do to worn
end bearings and such. Your motor runs good then I would slide shrink wrap tubing on
the wires because that's the critical point where they go through the metal housing, inside
the housing these wires don't touch any thing even if they are bare. Far as the bearings
they are 'oil lite' bronze I think and can't be found anywhere around here or machine
new ones same with brushes. Electric motor shops have dropped like flys in this throw
a way society.. My motor when cold sounds like a whining pig it needs bearings and I
dread draining coolant and all of that and I will buy a new 6vt motor. So to separate
the two housings tap tap and tap they are a tight fit they will come apart. Take the
fan housing end off first I try to slide the other side off leaving the armature in the
brushes so brushes springs don't go flying about all I can say sam

after removing one screw it is possible the top and bottom of the outer cover rotated slightly this will lock the second screw in place. try rotating either of the covers slightly or pry the one half cover of the motor off the second cover.

im restoring a 40 heater now,i had about 3" of old wiring left to solder new wires too,if the motor is good and you have some old wiring to attach new wiring too, do what big job said ,you could run into problems by taking motor apart,motors are very hard to find especially good working ones my 2 cents

What everyone above says... It can be a pain, but is doable. I pulled the coils out of mine and soldered the new wiring harness on. Have a lot of patience.

The hardest thing to find is a good switch for these heaters...

Use extreme care taking the motor apart and putting it back together. I did the heater motor on my '48 Ford this year and broke one of the brushes putting it back together. Trying to find a replacement was a b_tch. I found an old motor some one had and brought it for the brushes. There is a place in California called Eurotron that has parts for them I found out later. Good Luck with it.

Thanks for all the responses.

Haven't done anything yet, but came up with the idea of using a 4 pin m/f plug to attach the existing 6" of original wire to the new harness from the switch. Won't be seen and would still allow heater removal if needed.

Whattaya think? Leave well enough alone with a good working motor?
