Fiber vs aluminum cam gear
Installing new cam on rebuilt engine (59 A).What is the better choice, alum. or fibre? Have both bolt on gears. Aluminum was in engine originally. Thanks

Re: Fiber vs aluminum cam gear
I have heard bad things about the aftermarket fiber gears now being sold. I read here or on the H.A.M.B. that someone had one fail after only 2000 miles.

My father built & raced 40's model fords he would never us fiber gears . The down side to aluminum is more noise.

Re: Fiber vs aluminum cam gear
Go aluminum gear. Ford used fiber gears in the 70's on the 300 six and I sold a ton of replacement Ford gears for those, plus pan gaskets. They'd strip out and drop the pieces into the pan. Expensive job back then.
