pay-pal = rip off

Sold a car on ebay, pay-pal has put a hold on my funds for 21 days. This is an interest free loan to pay pal for 21 days. Pal-Pal takes my funds and millions of others and they play in the stock market. Plus they take a FEE just like ebay.

Pay pal is a business that like any other business exists to make money. If they did not make money they would cease to exist, and the service they perform would not be available to us.

Its really a rolling chassis. I did not have a choice, they paid in full thru pay pal at eBay's request. Payment was made before I knew it. Bad choice on me?

I buy on Ebay, but, I hate PayPal and refuse to go thru them. That does limit some things on Ebay.
PayPal has some of my money that I can't from them.

you can set parameters for what you accept of paypal.


Just sold a 29 dodge to a fella in England on the bay. Only sold for 4k, but he tried to paypal me the 4k. I dont accept that.
Shipper is going to bring me cash this week when he picks up.

PayPal's rules, like eBay's, are clearly spelled out when you sign up. If you don't like the rules for any reason, you don't have to use either one. However, they are probably the same rules we would institute if we owned the business.

Holds on payment funds are generally used by PayPal when you don't have a track record as a seller, and/or if you don't have a credit card on file. It is to protect the buyer in case the seller is trying a scam or defraud.

Sadly for us all, it seems the only way to know Pay Pal is there for Pay Pal and you a "far second" is to get hung out to dry by them once. My sympathies!

When I sell stuff here or other sites (Model T Ford Club of America) I give the buyer a choice of pay-pal or other, it's safe fast and convenient for the buyer. So I have to pay a fee, it's built into the sale price. I get my money and can ship fast, no waiting for check to clear or what not.

Like everything in life, pay attention to the rules, and make your decision accordingly. As with above, I offered choices including PayPal (which was never a problem and the most efficient). If I hadn't accepted PayPal, I would have sold a fraction of what I did.

I Don't take Pay Pal, They let people use stolen cc numbers to pay for stuff and the seller is out the money after they ship the goods and when the person that had his cc number ripped off discovers it is on his bill and protests the charge you are screwed. Just my personal experience.

In the same token they could send a bad check or cashier check or fake money order that bounces after it clears days down the road too.

Be very carefull sending money through PayPal.I lost $20.00 by sending to a wrong email address and a dishonest person receiving the funds meant to another,he will not return and PayPal will not do a thing about it. I sent it or thought I was sending it to the correct address but there was only one difference in the email address an underscore I left out so PayPal will not reverse the payment and the guy who had it sent to his PayPal account evidently thinks he won a little lottery.Guy receiving is a Kenneth Potter in Alburquerke,I think I spelled that wrong also hence my problems. Has a business named Brightworks which is where I was trying to send a payment to Brightworks restoration.Paypal needs to show more info when you send a payment,like another step that actually shows before hand the name and real address of who is getting the payment BEFORE you hit send.Just after you send it by email then you get the info and the shock.I know I am getting to old for this but an underscore differential? And absolutely no PayPal support after I have done business for 15 years with them.

I have had a few problems with ppl in the past and only use them on an ebay to pay auction. nothing else.

also be careful sending $ to friends and family, if they are not. there is no insurance coverage on that if it goes awry.

I never seem to be on the "friendly" side of Paypal if there is such a thing.A few years ago I sold a gun stock on Ebay and the buyer within 15 minutes of receiving the item filed a complaint on it as not walnut as described,it was.He did not want to return but wanted his money back or partial refund,this was only like a $40.00 deal. PayPal froze my entire account with the complaint and I could neither refund any money or buy anything. When badgered by the buyer for a refund I told him his action had blocked my doing so or me buying anything. Finally PayPal lifted after a week as I had asked them to investigate if this was the buyers pattern for trying to get free stuff and it actually was the case.I still do not understand why they would freeze a few hundred dollars of my money over a $40.00 dispute. I like the convenience most of the time but not the frustration.
