John Carelton
John Carleton "in cold and rainy England" or such. That was his opening to his post
That stopped a year ago. I ran across John and his son at the San Diego Swap Meet this spring. He had an unpleasant happening on Ford Barn so quit posting. Why can't we eliminate the problem people and bring back the pleasant ones? John, how's the weather over there? We'd like to have you back. Who do you miss? Lets invite them back. Re: John Carelton
Does this happen often? I've seen notes lately from the moderator basically reminding people to behave without name calling etc. (as it should be)
This is a great site with lots of helpful information and helpful people and it would be a shame if some of that knowledge is lost to this forum. |

Re: John Carelton
I think the important thing is to keep this (mostly) on topic and not have a thin skin about comments posted on a forum. People say things in print that are either taken the wrong way, or put things out there they'd never say to someone's face.
I think some of the drama is completely overblown and some who have left, or don't visit as often are also misinterpreted about their motives for being on here less often or leaving also. There may not be ANY drama they might just get busy, or tire of the same question posted 20 times not because everyone assumes its due to a grudge or misunderstanding with another individual. This is the FORDbarn not gossip central so its important to remember that and stay on topic and help each other out with their questions. With that said its also important to remember that life happens to all of us and a little personal chatter is okay too if done within reason. Its also how we form relationships, and friendships to one another and keeps some levity about the fact that there is a real person on the other end. If you don't like it - ignore it! Sometimes when a long time contributor is going through a tough time, it impacts their life in more ways than you know. Including the hobby we all love. - Think before you post - Not ALL responses HAVE to be as per judging standards or the red book - Pass over off topic stuff and don't feed the fire talking about it if you don't' want to participate. If you keep bringing it up or complaining about it wont' necessarily make it go away or change. - That bit about opinions are like.... a* I mean belly buttons. you know the rest. Personally I roll my eyes about plenty that is said here, and I'm sure my responses have generated similar reactions but all the people brought up by these kind of posts have made great contributions and I appreciate them being here. Even if they didn't vote for my guy. Happy Model A'ing everyone! I hope to meet most of you someday face to face, and then depending on who you are, or the mood we can either talk about old girlfriends, old dogs, or strictly model A and have a great time.

Re: John Carelton
Hi, What happened? Because someone was rude to John? It's a shame if he is therefore dropped out. I think the climate here is actually quite relaxed. It is friendly to each other. So it should be.
I am also in Germany's largest car forum. There, the manners are much perkier. I think that's not good, but it just needs to have a thick skin. One must not get upset and do not go into it. I hope it continues approaching relaxed in this forum here. It's a great forum. You all have a nice day, Greetings from Switzerland Barney |

Re: John Carelton
Dear Old Dad (aka John Charlton) is alive and well, but doesn't get on the computer so much these days (although he is sitting next to me and mine right now).
The reason for him not posting recently was that about a year ago he submitted a long and detailed reply to a particular query from a fellow Barner, but his post got deleted. He thought he had pressed the wrong button, so typed it all out again several days later with one finger, only to have his response deleted again with no explanation. He thought that perhaps some word or phrase he had used had caused offense to the moderator in American English, that would have been unremarkable in English English, but was not so concerned as to find out why. About the same time he bought a 1942 Ford GPW and switched his attention to that and the G503 website for a little while. His ancient computer then started giving trouble and he simply hasn't got round to getting it fixed. His attention is presently held by a 1928 Manchester built RHD phaeton with the small bore engine and multi disc clutch which is getting built in the conservatory right now. Seems the Jeep was a passing phase. He would like to assure his friends and fellow Fordbarners that no one has upset him or been rude to him to cause his absence. Nice to meet you Richard, and thanks for the nudge. I'll get him back posting Best regards Juggs (aka Andrew Charlton) PS - the weather is just fine |

Re: John Carelton
I have used forums since my days at DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation) in the 1990's. As such, I have found that many forums have there share of people who think that they can "hide" behind a keyboard and behave rude. Same people are pretty much "losers" in public, but they think they can insult people and act "tough" hiding behind a keyboard.
This forum though, in general, has a nice feel to it with the majority of members trying to help out others. Marc |

Re: John Carelton
I too have considered dropping Fordbarn posts and replys and just becoming a Lurker. There's way too much good information to pass up on here to leave completely. I'm just learning who to avoid.

Re: John Carelton
Guess my comment about thin skin individuals is that ever God forgives many idiots when they offend Him!

Re: John Carelton
same. The problem is, when you're trying to avoid them: they somehow find their way to you. Never ending.
