Default 1939 COE speedometer cable

Anyone know the routing of the speedometer cable through the cab? I've looked in the Green Books and cant find a layout. Fixing a cluster of extra holes that need welded up and not sure if this went through the top of the doghouse, firewall or floorboard? Thanks!

I also need to know the routing of the temp gauge tube to sending unit.

I dont have a COE but I do have a 1.5 ton there is what appears to be in the picture an inch and an eighth hole to the left of the clutch pedal right in the corner of the cab firewall and floor board meeting point. That's where the speedo came up through. Not sure if the coe has the same path or not.

Also looks like it goes up about 12" from the hole and hits a hold down strap.

Thanks Sparky, I was looking down around the floorboard corners like my other Fords but no luck. Finding not a lot of COE guys around, at least not restored.

Chris,

I have a '47 COE and I've never touched my speedo cable so off-hand I don't know how it's routed. I'll have to take a look and a few photos. Give me a day/two to do that.

The 38-39 COEs have slightly different gauges so I don't know if my info will be helpful.

Here's a picture of my 47 COE speedo cable coming through the firewall. It appears the cable routes over the top of the doghouse behind the dash, then comes through the hole seen here and follows the body contour down towards the transmission.

Caveat: My truck has a had a few mods but the dash cluster and the trans are stock so I don't think the speedometer cable is different than stock. It is possible that this isn't the correct location. Also, this may be accurate for a 41-47 Ford COE but perhaps not for a 38-40.

FordBarn wouldn't let me load a larger pic. If you need a larger version, PM me.

Hope this helps,

Dan

Dan- thank you!
I never would have thought they routed on the pass side, huge help!

FYI I'm in KC looking for a 2 speed rear and two extra (lock ring style) wheels. Any thing you find down your way for sale?
