Carbs and paint...
I am aware of some of the model airplane paints that were always used. They just are no available anymore.
Doing a basic search for fuel proof paint I found this brand: VHT Paint It is available through a number of retailers locally to everyone. Which brings me to the question of which type of paint? Gloss, Satin or Flat? I have to go look it up still, but any input would be good. I need to paint up a carb or 2. Thanks! |

Re: Carbs and paint...
I would go with flat. I've seen some unused original carbs and there was no sheen.

Re: Carbs and paint...
Originally Zenith carbs had a dull black surface. Not glossy.

I used it on my Zenith 2 and I like how it looks.

Look up full size aircraft suppliers to find dope. the gloss can be cut by adding talcum powder. it's about 22.00 a quart.

Epoxy is not desirable, nor is high temperature a need for a Zenith. What is important for carburetors is fuel resistance. http://www.vhtpaint.com/motorsport/vht-black-oxide-case-paint

Re: Carbs and paint...
I use this easy to get lacquer paint which has held up real well ...it resists fuel also and is recommended on snyders web site for doing carbs...

Re: Carbs and paint...
Gary, thanks for the link. I just ordered 5 cans from them. I hope that they indeed do have it in stock. The paint is bullet proof when it comes to gasoline. The carburetor paint from Snyders looks real nice and resists gasoline a little bit but is definitely not fuel proof.

Re: Carbs and paint...
Like Vince and many of you I have used the top flite fuel proof paint wit very good results, like Vince I have tried to find it in black and have been unsuccessful... However, short term till it comes available I purchased it in satin clear ( I believe also discontinued ) and the gloss clear.
I coated with the automotive dupli color black with ceramic and then too coated with the top flite clear . I have had good results so far I will try the VHT above and see how it does. I concur that it is a dilemma right now but hopefully we can get a good solution soon. Please continue to post with results . Larry Shepard |
