Fixed my brakes finally
Its been a fairly long haul, but what started as a brake job turned into a few other things.
First I bought a set of these brakes: [IMG][/IMG] Then I thought I should change the rear end to 3.54. That turned into quite a rebuild job. Thanks Mike and Vic!! [IMG][/IMG] That of course led to a dropped axle and reverse eyes. A big thanks to Sid (Nostalgia Sid's) for the axle work. Nice work and easy to deal with. Here is the result of all of this: [IMG][/IMG] If ya'll don't remember, my car had one of those fake quick change boxes hanging back there and some extra coil springs to jack up the back. I didn't like the look of that stuff at all. Now it is much closer to what I like. I still have a few things to do before I get back on the interior, but it sure is nice to be able to get it out on the road again. A big thanks to all who helped and guided me on this journey. You know who you are and I greatly appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge. I still have a lot to learn, but I know a hell of a lot more about old Ford suspensions than I did a few months ago. Heard

Good for you Heard!!....perseverance is the key. Today where instant gratification seems to be the norm......a lot can be said of delayed gratification,it is longer lasting and a lot more pleasurable...you deserve a break, come out to California stay at my place....Oh, and bring your tools. Wait.... maybe you should delay that until you know how to do an Interior....'36 and '35's are the same right?

Good stance! Is that Dynamat in the roof? Is it all over the interior?

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Matt - you know I would love to come out there and visit for a while. Don't be surprised if I just show up one day. I have to say though, working on the suspension is WAY more fun than figuring out these interiors.
40cpe - Yes. That damn Dynamat is all over the place. Holy crap! I've spent the better part of this afternoon trying to get all of the excess tar off the center floor section so I can put that back in. The pin striping was just something to keep me busy while I was waiting on parts. Of course it only took about 15 minutes. No one will ever see much if any of the striping but I thought it looked cool.

I helped lift that rear off your trailer and into the garage last March. Now it's all rebuilt and back under the car. Plus, a lot of other things have gotten done. Looks like you have been busy.

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Nice coupe! Love the striping on parts that most people won't see. You'll know it's there, and that's the whole reason to do it. I hope my 50 F-1 turns out half that nice. Going for the same kinda stance if possible.

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Good point Mart. The drum in first picture does not have the little nubs/nibs, or whatever they are called, that will support those wire wheels correctly.

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Looks great and it's a 36 3 window!!! WOW. Please don't take this the wrong way, but personally I'd ditch the 35 wires for a nice set of chromed 40's , but that is just me. Love your car!
It's awesome. The pinstripes are a bonus addition, very cool. Thanks for sharing. |

Re: Fixed my brakes finally
Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
Yes, I have the spacers from MT Products. I have to say though, I (think) I know what they are supposed to do, but I'm not convinced they do anything. And Tinker, I agree to some degree. I'm not crazy about the red wires and wide whitewalls, but Momma loves them. Personally, I think the car would look better with the side panels on and the bumpers. But I gotta take one step at a time, if you know what I mean. I'm going to drive it a while, then look to put radials on. Probably big/littles. We'll see how much the new springs settle before I make a decision on size.
