As far as front mounts are concerned, you use stock Ford small block mounts. You may have to do some fabrication on the rear moiunt.

Just put a 302 (same size as 289) in 54 (same frame as 55). It is an easy fit.

If you use Anchor # 2525, & 2526 (left & right) motor mounts, it will be high enough so you don't need to use washers to have engine clear crossmember. You also need a front sump oil pan.

If your merc still has its original 292 I would be interested in it if its not junk and too far away.

How about a 312 short block assembly.

Re: 1966 289 ford motor into 1955 mercury
I am kind of wanting to play the numbers game and have a 55 block but a 312 crank would be nice to put in a 292 block.

Re: 1966 289 ford motor into 1955 mercury
For the 312 crank to fit into a 292 block , the machinist will have to turn the mains down to fit into the 292 . Actually the 292 block will be much better than the 312 block and you won't have the crack problems from over torquing like the 312 had .
That way you will have a 292 but will have all the stock of the 312 ! Jim |
