400-A with a non-folding top?
Met an old acquaintance yesterday, whose Father owns his Grandfather's car, which, from description, is a 400-A.----BUT, he swears that the canvas top DOESN'T FOLD DOWN!! Anyone ever hear of such??
He will send me pics of it in a car show & I will post them when I get them.-----Bill W.

Victoria with a fabric top. Just a guess.

Re: 400-A with a non-folding top?
Is it possible someone may have had a "Carson Top" installed ? Carson Tops were quite popular in the late 30's and 40's; they were padded and not a convertible top.

Re: 400-A with a non-folding top?
He said it is NOT a Victoria, canvas is "floppy" like a sport coupe. I suspect that sometime in the past, someone put the "SCREWS" to it, so it WOULDN'T fold down??--Bill W.
Ron, Good thought about the Carson Top!!

Re: 400-A with a non-folding top?
Sounds like something i would do... So the top don't come down... Maybe the top iron are rusted so they can't fold down.???

I know a 68C done in the 60's by someone with no clue. They made it up as they went along. Amazing what you can do with plywood and 2x4's when making up a sill. At least they had the top working. |

Re: 400-A with a non-folding top?
An annoyed 400A owner could make others wretch by putting the top down. Probably done as a means of anger control.

It's not easy to do with one person.

Re: 400-A with a non-folding top?
I have seen some A400 ,B400 & C400 clones that have a bolt on Roof covered in fabric to give the appearance of the Real Deal , getting the Top functional is the hard part. 1st pic = real A400.... 2nd pic =clone 33 C400 with bolt-on roof... 3rd pic = clone 33 with Bolt-on Roof .... 4th pic = my 33 Vicky C400 Top down ( under boot )
