Default what the scoop on these spindels?

Here is a pic of my 34 spindels, steering side has a ring at the base of the axle but not on pass side. should both have them and purpose? I have another set just opposite from a 33. Ken

That is the oil seal. The early cars did not use a lip seal. It is also why they came with the grease retainer ring. Pull them off when coverting to later hubs with grease seals.

Andy is correct that's the grease seal for the hub just take a screw driver as a pry tool and pop it off the spindle snout.

Mac's has them Pt# b1190 (cheap ones) b1190u (good ones). I was like you when I took my 34 apart it was not the type of grease seal I was used to. Live & learn I guess.
