Rope turds
I have seen on the board, where the front rope seals if coated with Teflon shouldn't be soaked in oil. Where did this information come from.? I don't see it in Brattons catalog and I don't see it with or in the seal package.i don't see what difference it would make, soaked or not?

Re: Rope turds
??? you mean the rope seals that's supposed to hold back oil that will be constantly splashing/holding back against it? I dont see issues either way either lol
I dont think i soaked mine either I may have put a film of oil on them with my finger before installing them... mine are the white kinda squishy slippery (probably teflon) rope.

Re: Rope turds
I use a dab of STP prior to installing, never have soaked mine in oil. Something to lubricate on start up! Happy Holidays Chuck!

Re: Rope turds
I soak mine just to soften them then they pack easy into the t/cover and sump and do not need trimming

Re: Rope turds
Years ago I soaked the first two I worked on, because I heard it was the thing to do. I quit after those two because it makes them an oily mess to install, and actually seems to make them swell a little.
I install them dry, pound them to shape by using a socket the size of the crankshaft, then give them a squirt of oil, and a liberal coating of grease. They won't burn up and won't leak doing them this way. Be sure the rubbing surface is very smooth on the pulley. The pulley shouldn't have paint in the seal area. |
