Default Stant gas cap? Stainless or not?

Before I go to town buffing and polishing this gas cap I did a check and it is magnetic. So is it stainless (I am aware that some stainless is magnetic) or not and is it a Stant? Thanks, Gary

If it is in fact chrome plated a gentle buffing will not hurt it.
Any surface scratching will be hard to remove unlike softer stainless.
Over buffing will break thru the chrome, exposing any underlying layers.
