1934 Ford help
I have a couple of 34 Ford 1/2 ton questions.
What is the center to center bolt spacing on the rear transmission mount where it bolts to the frame? What speedometer tooth count was used in the tortoise shell housing in the 34 Ford 1/2 ton PU? Thanks! |

Re: 1934 Ford help
I just measured 8 5/8" center to center.
I just unwrapped a new repo mount this past weekend and it didn't come close to fitting. It's half a hole off... See pictures.. |

Re: 1934 Ford help
Speedo tooth count depends on which rear end gears you have....

Re: 1934 Ford help
Thanks, and that makes sense on the speedo gear. (duh)
Do you know if the torque tube out of a 41 Ford 1/2 ton will fit a 34 Ford 1/2 ton? |

Re: 1934 Ford help
Fred, then torque tube from the 41 will be a lot longer than the 34.

Re: 1934 Ford help
Beware.......There are two DIFFERENT lengths for torque tubes and drive shafts in '33s and '34s. The V8 pieces were 1-1/2" longer than the 4-cylinder equivalents. If you need exact lengths, I can find the figures. DD

Re: 1934 Ford help
Ha.......I knew you'd be back. The V8 torque tube is 61-13/16" overall. That rear mount (one that is correctly dimensioned) is designed to be reversed (legs to the rear, or legs to the front) when changing from V8 to 4-cylinder, or the other way around. DD

Re: 1934 Ford help
You can use a later torque tube if need be but it will need to be shortened. Different years have different radius rods and the support location for what ever year radius rods are used will need adjustment to the new location. Not a real big deal. Just cut & reweld to new location. If the later TQ tube has a center damper bearing it will need to be removed to use with a tube type drive shaft if that's what is intended.
Most folks get the aft end cut off with a lathe by a machine shop then cut out the excess length of the tube also & reweld the flange back on. |

Re: 1934 Ford help
Possible plan if it comes to that. I might also have a tube out of a 36 Coupe stashed somewhere. I better dig it out and measure it. Thanks rotorwrench for the additional ideas.

Re: 1934 Ford help
start looking for a drive shaft now, and you might find one by the time the car is done

Re: 1934 Ford help
Fredb......You're gonna need the DRIVE SHAFT length info also! DD
For Reference. 1. The 1934 V-8 driveshaft is listed at 60 5/32" and the 4-cyl at 58 7/16" in the green Ford parts book. |

Re: 1934 Ford help
Helps to have friends. Came up with a pretty rare piece I guess. It was confusing reading all the stuff online and looking at the Green Bible. I guess the "early" 32 is different than this one. My book didn't give any information about the spline count, but I was told the V8 version is 10 spline and the 4 Cylinder is 6 spline. Anyway, I believe I got the correct shaft and housing for my friend in Canada. Thanks for your help here!
