I picked up a 36 yesterday and have a question about the buckets

Re: Need help with 36 parts
I think I have one. 35 headlight and 36.
Are the buckets interchange ? Who has the best catalog or parts drawing? I'm starting blind as this car has been completely taken apart. Thanks |

Re: Need help with 36 parts
I believe the 1936 buckets themselves are the same those for 1935, however there are differences in the mounting bolt length as well as the trim rings and lenses. The top one shown in the first picture appears to be a 1935, based on the length of the mounting bolt. Here's a parts schematic taken from Mac Van Pelts site:

Re: Need help with 36 parts
I believe those are for a 35 passenger and 35-39 pickup. They look like the ones off of my 39 pickup The bolts are longer on the pickup (4") than the 35 passenger (3 1/4") approxamate.

Re: Need help with 36 parts
No, but a green bible will have some parts breakdown pictures in it, about $100 for an original. The Hardware and Trimming Supplies will also have some. I just bought one of those for $10. Some but not all. The Van Pelt website has lots of the green bible pictures on it:http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ings_links.htm

The short one is 36 car. The buckets are the same for both years but use different lenses and rims. If your not "show" a spacer under the fender support make the 35 fit a 36. These look pretty rough. You may find a much better set putting a "wanted" here an Early V8 as well as watching ebay. |

If the mounting bolts are good save them. To my knowledge they are not reproduced.

Re: Need help with 36 parts
I don't want to rain on your parade, however, I would like to point out a few things to you...
If the items shown in your pix is the extent of the parts you have for a '36 Ford, be very careful before you move forward with the restoration.... Especially since you have stated that you don't know much about the '36 Fords. You would almost need a complete '36 Ford on-hand in order to do the restoration. Doors, fenders, hood, grille shell, running boards could set you back over $2,500. for re-buildable parts... A complete car, including eng, trans, etc., needing a complete restoration could be purchased for $5,/8.k which may sound pricey, however, in the long run it would be money well spent. The 5 win coupe body would make a perfect choice to restore a less desirable 4 dr. sdn. Do some home work before you get yourself buried in this project and it becomes another failed dream sitting in your back yard and/or the local recycle yard.

Re: Need help with 36 parts
I appreciate your concern. I do have fenders, doors and hood.
This is the 1st 36 ford but certainly not the first car or bike I've restored. Everything I've ever bought was in pieces and I finished all of them. The last one was a 58 gmc that I completed in 18 months. Started with a frame and cab. I'm not a pro just having fun in my back yard. This one will take longer but a lot less welding. . The most fun is figuring out how it goes together and when it all comes together that you did it yourself. The forums and Internet has made it so easy compared to years ago with expensive long distance calls and snail mail. The wealth of info is amazing on forums like this. I'm lucky to be able to start with CA body! |

Re: Need help with 36 parts
That looks like a really nice body to start with.
I agree on buying a donor 4 door. We did that for our sedan delivery recently.
